Teach Arts Ohio Grant Award

Each November, the Ohio Arts Council opens its Teach Arts Ohio grant application to schools across Ohio. The grant allows schools to partner with local teaching artists to provide high-quality arts learning experiences for their students that they otherwise would not have access to.

I’m excited to share that Annehurst Elementary School has been awarded a Teach Arts Ohio grant for the second year in a row and has named me their resident artist!

Last year, I spent one hundred days partnering with Annehurst’s art teacher, Jennifer Stoycheff, as we developed process-based art lessons to support social-emotional learning standards. In addition to exposing staff and students to ways of utilizing art for mental wellness, developing problem-solving skills, identifying emotions, and learning to lean into making mistakes, I also assisted the students in designing and painting a 40-foot mural inside the school!

Our plan for this year is to build on the skills we began instilling in the students last year, reinforcing social-emotional learning concepts as they relate to art. We will do this by focusing on Annehurst’s flexible learning space, lovingly referred to as “The Treehouse,” with another school-wide mural and multiple collaborative art installations created by the students throughout the year.
